MEMORANDUM FOR PRESS CONFERENCE: NATURE OF INDUSTRY COMMITTEES,

There seems to be a general impression that the Industry Committees under the Fair Labor Standards Act will be permanent administrative bodies similar to the N. R. A. Code Authorities. This impression, combined with the statement in the Act, that Industry Committee members need not be selected in accordance with civil-service requirements, had led to a large number of applications from persons who consider Industry Committee memberships to be permanent jobs.

It might, therefore, be helpful to make it known through the press that membership in Industry Committees is in the nature of voluntary and temporary public service recompensed only by the payment of per diem and expenses.

Industry Committees are not permanent administrative bodies.

ROBERT FRASE.
